The Theme. The Art. The Stardom. Whatever reason you have to keep up with the ever-so-anticipated Met Gala, we hope you’re just as excited as we are! It seems that each year’s theme outshines the last. As for 2017, we are not only eager but intrigued as to what this year’s theme will bring on the red carpet come the first of May.
It’s true that the biggest A-Listers to date will be front and center of flashing lights and antsy reporters, but the biggest spotlight of the night will go to none other than Rei Kawakubo. The Japanese designer’s ever-evolving and unpredictable art will take its rightful place in New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art; making this year’s theme centering her work: Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: The Art of the In-Between. This is a huge deal, considering Kawakubo is the second living designer since Yves Saint Laurent earning her own exhibit.
As we’re preparing for a night filled with off-the-wall fabulousness, we’re also feeling rather nostalgic looking back on iconic ensembles to ever walk on the red carpet steps of the Met. Whether these celebrities walked alone or with their significant others/designer, stuck to the theme; forgoing the dress code, here are some of our favorite looks from past Met Galas:
We hope you tune in May 1st to give us your favorite and most memorable looks of the night, as well as checking us out to get more details about all things Comme des Garçons!
